Mega Man is the next of many video game legends set to join Fortnite in this gaming legend-themed season. Although Epic Games has yet to confirm a release date, the Capcom original character will reportedly bring friends, including his trusty robotic pet dog, Rush.
This article outlines everything you should know about the upcoming Mega Man collab!
First look at Mega Man and Rush
The Mega Man skin and other cosmetics have yet to be revealed, but Epic Games did provide another look at the character via an in-game tournament image.
Per the image above for the upcoming Mega Man Cup, this gives players a better idea of what to expect when the ‘X’ Fortnite skin launches in-game.
The character’s iconic Mega Buster is already in the game, so his Pickaxe here is a reference to the Crush Crawfish boss from Mega Man X3. Many have labeled this a deep cut that exhibits impressive knowledge of the Mega Man series.
Joining Mega Man is the confirmed Rush Sidekick, which will presumably launch alongside X. We have a better look at Rush and his trusty companion as his assets were decrypted.
What other characters are coming to Fortnite?
Those with a keen eye instantly associated the silhouetted character in Fortnite’s official teaser with his friend Zero. That all but confirmed that Zero, who debuted in 1993’s Mega Man X, will appear in the collab as a Fortnite skin at some point.
Many leakers have reported a third character, but whether it’s Proto Man, Bass, or someone else remains a mystery. However, HYPEX has confirmed it will be a male character, so keep that in mind.
When do Mega Man and friends hit the Item Shop?
As you’ll learn in the next section, Epic Games will host the Mega Man Cup on Tuesday, Sept. 8. Based on that information, we expect the Mega Man Bundle and Rush Sidekick to land in the Fortnite Item Shop the same day or on Wednesday, Sept. 9.
Epic tends to release skins with a quick turnaround following tournaments like this, but it realistically could happen anytime this week. We expect further confirmation over the next 24 to 48 hours.
Compete in the Mega Man Cup to get the skin for free
As mentioned earlier, the Mega Man Cup lets players compete and unlock the Fortnite skin before it goes live to the public. Many of these tournaments have similar formats, but this one is different.
This tournament values eliminations with Fortnite’s Mega Buster. You can earn a Spray for free by earning five eliminations with this weapon in Battle Royale and Zero Build, and 25 on Mobile. Otherwise, the format remains similar to what we’ve seen before:
- Open to Battle Royale, Zero Build, and Mobile
- Three-hour time limit
- Ten-match limit
- Earn points based on eliminations and placement
Those who place atop their respective region will unlock the Mega Man Bundle, including the Back Bling and Pickaxe, for free. You can also earn an Emoticon by earning just eight points.
Details regarding the Zero Fortnite skin and anything else this collab has to offer should surface over the coming days!
