Nintendo has apologized to fans after admitting it severely underestimated demand for The Legend of Zelda's 40th anniversary products, with special edition Switch 2 consoles and accessories selling out around the world.
The gaming giant has been celebrating Zelda's 40th anniversary with a range of special products, including a themed Nintendo Switch 2, Pro Controller, and carrying case.
However, demand has been much higher than Nintendo anticipated, leaving fans struggling to secure preorders for the anniversary collection.
The company has now acknowledged the shortages and promised that more stock is on the way, although it hasn't provided an exact timeline.
Nintendo promises Zelda 40th anniversary restocks after unexpected demand
Speaking in an interview with Brazilian YouTube channel Coelho no Japão, Nintendo's Vice President and General Manager for Latin America, Bill van Zyll, admitted the response had caught the company off guard.
"I will tell you that it’s a global phenomenon. We have this issue absolutely everywhere. We apologize for that. That certainly is not the intent," he said.
Van Zyll explained that the shortages weren't limited to Brazil, with customers in the United States and other markets also experiencing difficulties securing the products.
"We underestimated how well it would be received. And there are certainly some markets that stand out. The United States did extremely well as well. It’s a global phenomenon where they’re running out of product."
Nintendo is already working to replenish supplies of the special edition hardware, controller, and software, although Van Zyll urged fans to "please be patient" while the company addresses the shortages.
He also confirmed that restocks are planned but couldn't provide specific dates or quantities.
The shortages come just weeks after Nintendo unveiled its first special edition Switch 2 during September's Zelda anniversary Direct.

The redesigned console features teal Joy-Con controllers, gold Triforce detailing, and a matching dock. It is scheduled to launch on October 29 alongside the themed Pro Controller and carrying case.
The anniversary celebrations will continue on November 5 with the highly anticipated remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which features updated visuals, expanded locations, and modernized gameplay.
Excitement for the remake has only continued to build, with fans recently losing their minds over Dark Link's appearance in a new gameplay trailer.
For now, fans who missed out on the anniversary hardware will have to wait for Nintendo to announce when additional stock will become available.
