Nintendo quietly revealed The Legend of Zelda: Master Collection during a specific regional broadcast of the series' 40th anniversary Direct, giving fans even more content on the eve of a whole new era for the franchise.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is positioning itself as the greatest machine for playing Legend of Zelda games, with nearly every mainline entry of the franchise playable. The big exceptions are the Nintendo DS and 3DS titles, which would be especially difficult to port, but pretty much every other notable Legend of Zelda game is available in some form on the Switch 2.
The Legend Of Zelda: Master Collection Revealed As Part Of Series' 40th Anniversary Celebrations
While the main focus of The Legend of Zelda — 40th Anniversary Direct was the gameplay reveal for the Ocarina of Time remake, Nintendo also announced new merchandise during the Direct, such as an electronic Ocarina that's compatible with the video game. The UK version of the broadcast included an additional reveal: The Legend of Zelda: Master Collection was announced alongside the other merchandise, though it lacked a release date.
The Legend of Zelda: Master Collection is a series of trading cards released in booster packs by Panini, featuring artwork from the franchise's history. Panini is also selling an album to keep the cards in, for those serious about collecting as many pictures of Link's face as possible.
A New Era For The Legend Of Zelda Is About To Begin
2026 and beyond are marking a whole new era for The Legend of Zelda franchise, with the Ocarina of Time remake at the end of the year, a Nintendo Switch 2 edition of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is on the way, and the live-action film is coming in 2027. Sure, there's no information about the next big 3D entry, but that's likely to come after the movie.
If The Legend of Zelda: Master Collection has a shred of the same interest as the recent 30th anniversary cards for the Pokémon Trading Card Game, then scalpers will be fighting over themselves to nab them. Hopefully, the real fans will be able to get them first, especially if they come to markets outside the UK and Europe, as there are millions of Legend of Zelda fans worldwide who'd love to own more 40th anniversary merchandise.
