In one of the bigger changes in the Ocarina of Time remake, time will continue to move when you enter destinations like towns and dungeons.
TJ Denzer September 8, 2026 8:22 AM Image via Nintendo 1The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake finally got a big reveal this week, and with it we learned some important details, such as what’s changing from the original. One of those things is time itself. Where time stopped moving in towns and dungeons in the original Ocarina of Time, the remain makes the passage of time persistent with a few exceptions.
That detail was announced on the Legend of Zelda 40th anniversary Nintendo Direct. During the Castle Town segment, it was demonstrated that time will continue to “march on, no matter where you are.”
That’s a major change from the original Ocarina of Time, where time would stop when you entered named destinations like Castle Town, Kakariko Village, and the dungeons, just to name a few examples. We’ll still be able to manipulate the time of day through the Ocarina of Time, but the flow of day into night across all areas will be an interesting change to the vibe and progression the remake.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake will launch on November 5, 2026 on Nintendo Switch 2. Stay tuned to the game’s topic for more news and updates.
